Default Broken saddlebag lid post

My wife left the saddlebag lid open on the left side and when I went to get off I stepped on it and broke off the front post that the cloth strap connects to. I tried some epoxy to glue it back on but that has come loose now. Is there some other way to reattach this thing? Never used it before but maybe bondo, need help.

Hard to tell without a pic but can you reinforce the repair by expoxying a piece over the break from the inside?

It won't look the same, but I have made that kind of repair by using fiberglass resin. Use a little resin (or glue) to put the two pieces back together like you did before, then put a generous amount of resin all around the break area (make it nice and thick) . When it dries you can sand it down to look better, but it does not sand easy so just make it look the best you can while it is soft. When it sets up, paint it and you are good to go.

I would try a cement for ABS plastic.
I think there is a special two part cement you can buy.

When I cracked my lower tour pack,I used ABS cement for ABS pipe.It worked well.

The glue for ABS pipe should work. It melts the ABS to form a good bond. Lowes or home depot.

If you decide to try epoxy, use T-88, not the Devcon crap they sell at the hardware store. It's much less sensitive to temperature when curing.

Go to a store that sells auto paint and get some structural adhesive , they use it to glue plastic fenders on cars, it will work, just make sure that it is clean.

Thanks for the suggestions. Think I will try the ABS pipe cement first. The post broke almost flush at the base of it where it was molded to the inside of the lid. I think I used the household type epoxy is why it didn't hold. Now I have to cut all that stuff off before starting.

If gluing / cement doesn't work out for you consider welding it.

They sell plastic welding rods for this purpose.
