well, I'm off to pick up my new detachable windshield for the street bob... been exactly two weeks (I guess that's normal when ordering directly from HD to the dealership?) Anyway, when I said I'd be right there they mentioned that there was some "hardware" and that I'd better pick it up in my car... wha??? I have to drive to the Harley Dealership in my friggin' automobile???
The first time I rode my RKC without a windshield was the last time I rode it without a windshield. I took a 30 mile ride on a beautiful day. Starting out I thought "this is great!". By the time I got over 45 mph, my face was contorting from the blasts of air and the wind noise through the straps of my half helmet was deafening. I felt dazed the rest of the day as if my head had been used as a punching bag.
I'll take windshield over no windshield, unless I'm going to ride in a parade. But then I'm 50 and am entitled to one
Well, I'm glad these things are detachable. I sure as hell wouldn't want this thing in town. I'm sure once I leave the city limits and kick it into 6th gear, I'll be glad I got it.
Nothing new here -- rode the 50's, 60's, 70's, n 80's with no shield;
then no bike for 12 years.... now I won't be without one....
bike that is... bike that is with no shield....
like TUCCI, things like shields n floorboards n other goodies just go from nice to have to gotta have...
dunno if it's ole age or just don't care whether someone with 'comfort envy' thinks you're a wimpy puzz or not....
I'm just the opposite, on the rare occasion I run my windshield (long trips only) I am relieved to take it off and not run it anymore. I just like the feeling and look with out a windshield on.
my first real bike was when I was 17 it was a 78 1/2 Electraglide, it had a windshield, & I hated it, I swore to never own another bike with a shield & haven't, I am 45 now.
they create a turbulance around you & pull your beard into your eyes instead of tossing beard over shoulders, they pull hair into your eyes, they accumulate snow & create unsafe conditions having to stand up to wipe snow off, plus you may have to pull off road to scrape ice accumulation, where with glasses you can just use your gloved hand, plus they isolate you for what you ride for, to experience the ride. if you dont want to experience the ride, ride your cage or stay home.
as for bugs wear a scarf over face / a banadana over mouth & nose, it keeps all but the most juicy from leaking into your mouth! lol.
I have rode others bikes with windshields & still dislike, so no windshields for me yet at this point in life, maybe in another 20 years? hopefully never.
