Any chance these machines are out in the weather a lot of the time and these gadgets need a little extra lube or something under these conditions?

[QUOTE=Jon0807;9672266]I'm not sure what the technical name of these are but they look like metal clip springs that go on each hinge of the saddle bags. [QUOTE]

The saddlebag latch springs are torsion springs.

I probly replaced 4 of them on my '06,none on my new one yet.
Does'nt hurt to place a drop of oil at each leg of the spring.

Oops,wrong bike!

From what I can tell, they help the lid stay open.

I still haven't had them replaced. I just broke the final 4th one not too long ago. I may have them replaced when I do the brake switch recall in a few weeks.

Three of mine broke too. The first two I had replaced under warranty. When the third one broke I didn't want the hassle and time of going back to the dealer so I ordered a set. Part #90382-98 (Spring Clip Kit) $6.40 at Lakeshore Harley. I replaced mine as it appears they add some stability to the actual hinge. Using snap ring pliers made it a breeze to put in.

These are not the same springs as on some of the hard bags so I attached some pictures. one of a broken one and one new one.

Now I am confused. I have an 06 RKC and if I have these on my bags, I have never noticed them, so I just went out and looked...damn if they are not there. none broken or missing. I guess now that I know about them, they will start breaking. I wonder if in the later model they are using different, more brittle metal?

That's what I wonder, if Harley is using cheaper quality steel in the spring clips. If so, somebody forgot to test them before putting them in production.

My 2010 RKC I had to buy those things. They are to stop the lid from opening too far and 'denting' the top of the lid on the fenders or docking system. Seem to work but a pain to put items in and take them out of bags.

Man it has been years since i last saw those..seemed like more of a lid stop or holder as mentioned..seen no problems running without them other than my lids open to the max so i placed a few flat washers on the mounting brackets to tilt bags outward a bit.
