Default 2012 Road King in limp mode

My new 2012 Road King has 65 miles on it and is spending it's 4th day in the shop at the dealership. It started running rough and the engine light came on.
I did a search on this forum for such and learned how to access the trouble codes. It had the following codes: P0107, P0651, P1510, P2127, P2138.

I find that these are related to the limited performance mode, throttle position, twist grip, and MAP sensors. I realize some of the codes are flashed because of the limp mode operation.

The issue is intermittent, but I had no problem clearing the codes and replicating the problem in my home shop. It would run great, then the engine light would come on and throttle response was poor- limp mode again. I even think once it happened when I turned the handle bar.

Since it has 65 miles on it and elctrical parts can be expensive and tracing wires is time consuming, I took it to the dealer. I am confident they will find the issue.

Anybody had similar problems with 2012 RK? If so, what was it?

Thanks in advance,

if it's bone stock ( meaning you didn't try a bar swap)- then it's their problem.

you have a warranty.

Bone stock. I was going to break it in before doing any wrenching on it.

Thanks,

Thanks,
sounds like it broke before you got the chance, sorry to hear, glad you have confidence in your dealer, too

My 2012 RGC had the same issue. It was a bare wire that some how got the insulation pealed on it from the factory. It was shorting out and since it happened to be one of the handlebar wires it put the bike into limp mode. Took them a few days to find and fix it, but it has been fine ever since. It is just frustrating as hell!!

Can you tell me specifically where the wire was and what color?

Dealership called, said they didn't find anything. They cleared the codes and it won't do it again for them. I'm going to pick it up and ride around town to see if it will do it again before I get very far.

Here we go...............

Pull the connection apart at the TCA ( where the carb would be ) and blow out the connection and put some dialectric grease in there. Snap it back together solidly. Look at the way those wires bend almost backwards, no wonder there is a problem with bad connections!!

I'm sorry I cannot, however I know it was in the faring, not the handle bars themselves. They did the same thing with mine (cleared the codes) and didn't make it off the lot before it started doing it again. Tell them to really dig in and look, spread the wires and really look. You paid a lot of $$$ for that bike and you should have faith in it that it won't let you down. Bryan

I had the same problem after a bar swap. I just cleared it. Will it stay in limp mode even after the errors cleared and it doesn't seem to throw it anymore?
