Default Another Speaker Question

Hi, I have been reading so much on the speaker issue. But has anyone tried either the Kicker or Polk audio speakers. I am just wanting to add to my 07 ultra and not an amp as of yet. Polk for home audio has always been a very high end speaker, so anyone compared them to the others? Also what about a good amp alternative with out spending hundreds of dollars.

plenty of people on this forum including myself upgraded speakers to the polk mm651's comboed with the rockford fosgate 300x2 amp....sound is amazing...bass is soooo much better when comparing to other speakers...all polks are waterproof...

I looked at the Kicker ps5250's....seemed to be a good speaker and was my second choice...it's waterproof which is a huge plus cause some companies out there don't advertise their speakers as even being water resistent...guess that depends on what type of riding u do and how much...I don't think u'll get the bass response out of these...

I have the Polk MM6501 components. I do like the way they sound, but I don't think I would use them without an amp. Don't buy more speaker than your HU is going to push.

I really like the all the reviews I've read about the polk/rf combo. My question is what other supplies are needed to make that set up happen. Speaker ring adapters are a given. What else was needed? The biketronics set up? Amp install kit from Wally World?? Any replies are appreciated.

Thanks

Is there a fit issue with the magnets and the fairing, with any of these speakers, polk, r/f etc? The reason I ask is I have seen some mention of shallow depth speakers, or is the shallow depth speakers for mounting elsewhere, like a second location in the fairing?

I see alot of people are splicing the input speaker wires from the head unit to the amp. When I was at the dealer yesterday I enquired about new pins for the connectors, they said they were available. So you cold push the old speaker wires out and atach new pins to the wires on the amp and insert them into the connectors on the head unit and avoid splicing, plus a much cleaner setup.

What about some different grills, smothing a little better looking than the cloth looking stock grills. What available?

I am not intending to hijack your thread, just thought my questions were relivant.

I have a 12 SG. I bought my RF 300x2 amp and mm651 speakers for about $270.00 with shipping. For the parts, It was easy. You don't need a fancy amp kit. You need enough 10 ga power wire to make it to the battery with a 30 amp inline fuse no more than 18" from battery. A short 10 ga ground to ground amp to triple tree (mine already had some ground wires screwed in on the triple tree). You may need some speaker wire, but if you go with the mm651, they come with passive crossovers that have enough wire on them.

4 foot 10ga power wire from Ace Hardware at .50 a foot.
1 foot 10ga ground at .50 a foot.
30 amp weather resistant inline fuse from Radio shack at $3.00
Velcro to mount on top of radio $2.00
tie wraps to make sure it stays in place (already had those)

Total cost of $7.50 for amp setup.

Total cost 277.50. Took about 2 hours which included taking off my tank to run wires in wire channel.

What about the rear speakers, will the polk work for the also? Also will the amp run both sets. What is the model number of the amp.

Whatever you do, do NOT WASTE your money on the Kickers.....I got mine from best buy and ran a small 50 watt amp and they suck.....The tweeter cuts out all the time and I set the gain way down, also i can barely hear it at 70 or so......I am doing RF/Polk set up as soon as I get the cash......I am gonna do seperate componets though seeing I have a standard that has no bottom gauges.......

The amp Murph is referring to is a 2 channel amp. You would need the BPR 300-4 which is a 4 channel amp to run the front and rear speaker.
