I have been riding since 1972 and no longer feel the need to wave to every other bike or moped rider on the road. Hell why wave at somebody I don't know, who probably would not bother to acknowledge me in any other situation. Now when I am driving my 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass I wave at all the other drivers of 1986 Oldsmobiles cause we share a common bond LOL it makes about as much sense don't you think?
I wouldn't worry about it....and making a connection between happy wavers and whether they work on their own bikes is a bit of a stretch, don't you think?

Couldn't agree more.. lolol..and I have been riding since 1969.
Brotherhood just cause we ride the same brand of motorcycle?
Okay. To get this straight, at one point I was at a light. Across from me were about 12 Harleys. I took off first with hand out, not one of them acknowledged me. That's all fine and good. I just proceeded to walk it thru a few gears after passing them. Do that on your sled.
Those that don't about, oh well. I'll keep riding my mixed collection of bikes and throwing a hand out to all 2 and 3 wheelers.
I have always thought if you don't wave at me you must be a a-hole but if I don't wave at you it's because I'm busy with that hand or didn't see you in time!
I used to wave to everyone. Occasionally, looking across the road, to see if my wave was acknowledged took away from my situational awareness. I still wave in the country or when I am riding in harsh conditions, but on sunny 75 degree days, I don't.
When you are passing another bike constantly. it gets annoying, coddling everyone else's ego. I will make a special effort to wave at trikes so they don't think I am a snob, but the whole obligation thing is getting annoying.
I guess riders are a lot more neighborly here in Texas, darned near every 2 wheeled conveyance that goes by the other way waves at me regardless of which bike I'm on. I always wave back. I've been riding (and waving) for 29 years now and still feel a sense of camaraderie when waving and getting waved at.
