Default Speedo question?

I'm on a trip in the smokies and my speedo started bouncing today. Everything else is working/running fine. I replaced the speed sensor about 3 years ago. Any ideas what it could be? I feel like my transmission might have got a little hot today, could smell gear oil after a while in the mountains but no signs of leaks and the fluid level is good.

see if the sensor needs cleaning, they are magnetic and can pick up pieces of steel.

Check your voltage with the bike running. My voltage regulator went bad and my speedometer went nuts.

So when yours went bad did you have any other symptoms?

The only thing on my bike that was not working as it should was the speedometer, the odometer seam to still be working. I checked the speed sensor and it was clean and checked out ok. I stumbled on to the voltage regulator by accident . Hope this helps.

Thanks to everyone for their help. After some testing I have concluded that it was the sensor going bad and have one on order to replace it.
