Default 2009 flhtcu muffler drilling

I just got this bike.
on the older pre-2000 bikes I would just drill out the mufflers until I got the money to buy some good exhaust pipes.
but i read here and there that it is not good for tuning reasons, or it sounds like ****.
if it sounds bad I can all put the stock back on (I have 2 sets).

if it mess's up the computer or de-tuns it a lot, that I don't want.
I am a old fart and don't need a lot of power.

I was reading on here about the cat, I checked mine and there's not one,, are they only on the cal. bikes?

one last thing this bike really clunks when I put it in gear, or just pull in the cluch,, (I have had 28 HD's in my life) I put it up stand and checked the tire roll and in gear the tire will move 1 1/4" . is that right?

any help I can get would be great, TY

the cat is in the head pipe on the newer bikes. Not certain about the 09's, know my 10 and 12 had one in head pipe. Can see it when you remove the right side(football side) muffler. Pics of the cat are on the forum somewhere.

the chunk going into gear can be minimized by changing to gear oil, like some type of 75/90 or 75/140 gear oil. Lots of options, redline shock proof, spectroil or bel ray all appear popular. i run the bel ray 75/140 as it is easily available.

Check full sac for muffler options, they have a kit that you can purchases that allows use of stock mufflers. Kit requires a bit of work, probably an hour or so, but provides for new baffles and really impacts performance and sound. I installed mine and am very happy with it, somewhere around $130 to $199 depending on muffler type.

if you only modify mufflers it should not affect the fuel map, if you have issues, (ie heat, or decel poping, xied seems popular, before going to a full fuel adjuster. xied is around 75 to 125 bucks.

Enjoy the new to you bike

the 09 doesn't have the catalytic converter in the headpipe. but it does have the larger 18mm o2 bungs. thats why you'll see a lot of guys with pcv's using the 09 headpipe because they are not using o2 sensors and don't have to worry about gutting the cat out.

All International, CVO, and California models have the Catalytic Converter in the Head pipe for the '09 models year.
The 49 State models do not have the Catalytic Converter in the head pipe, but still use the same 18mm O2 sensors.

Question: Which year of the 28 Harleys that you've owned DIDN'T clunk when put into gear?

* some "Border State" dealers will stock only CA. bikes, rather than carry 49 and CA versions.

Yuma AZ is an example of this, there are others...so some 09 bikes sold outside CA have cats.

The cat can be heard by tapping a pen on the front header about 7" down, "tink tink tink, clank"

clunk into gear ? all of mine have and do, so'd the BMW

Default LOL...they all clunked

this bike dose the clunk even after it is in gear by just pulling in the clutch,, like if your try to go slow to make a U turn. pulling it in and letting it out. none off my old bikes did that. of witch my newest one was a 2000 flht.
at first I thought it was from the primary chain, I pull off the cover and all is fine in there.
I seen that they changed the way the COMPENSATOR gear looks and works.
I was thinking that may be making the clunking more notice-sable.

it is like if the front pulley is moving on the shaft.

I know this would not be right on older bikes, I just don't know on this one..
I am going to try and make a video of it in the morning. and link it here.

thanks to all of you for your help..
