Default SG exhaust baffle removal

I am looking at removing the baffles from my 2012 SG and I would like to know if anyone that has done this knows if there is a significant change in the back pressure put on the engine by removing the baffles. Is there is I guess I need to look at a stage 1 as well as the air cleaner upgrade. Does anyone have any information on this?

I'm guessing you want to do this to make noise ..... and it will make noise, not necessarily good noise, but noise. By good noise, I don't mean volume, but quality of tone. Think car with muffler falling off. Yes, definitely reduced backpressure and loss in power, especially low end torque. There are some companies, you can search the forum or someone will chime in, where you can get replacement baffles to get the sound you want and keep performance. For the best of both worlds, sound and performance, consider an exhaust and air upgrade.

I do not use any of their products but here is one way to do what I think you would want to do. Just another way to do. You might want a high flow air cleaner but to each their own. My .02

Just buy some slip-ons and be done with it. In the end you will save yourself some time, money, and aggravation.

I removed my SG baffles last night. Last weekend I gutted the cat. With both done, this thing sounds absolutely great. I thought it would be real loud and "open exhaust" sounding and it isnt. It has a great deep tone with some volume so you can hear it. I did it as a temp mod until I get my V&H power duals and monster ovals. I think it will slow down my need to do the exhaust as quickly as I wanted to. Now I think I am going to do stage 1 air cleaner and SE Pro Tuner to give it some power since the sound is awesome!!

If you have any doubt about doing it, I am hear to say mine sounds great. Only word of caution, one of my baffles was a real PITA to get out. It ran the length of the muffler and had to be cut out of both ends and took me 2 days to get the baffle out of the muffler once it was cut loose. The long baffle has a weird piece on the end that wouldnt fit through the hole in the muffler. I had to open the hole in the muffler to get it out, was really tough. The other baffle was near the back and only about 3-4" long, came right out once I cut it loose.

Oh yeah, I still plan to go to the Monster ovals and power duals but now more for the look than the sound.

I went the http://www.americancustom.com/ route after playing with a number of slipons I had laying around. Runs cooler, sounds good -- better than the Rush or HDs or (can't recall the other one) I had. Will have to say that the bike had the stage 1 download from the dealer when I got it, so I can't swear that some fuel adjustment is not needed with this change. I also changed the intake system to a Zippers / K alpha N, and modded the blowby system. Runs good, and it's noticeably -- I should say "measurably" cooler. Tested with oil temp gage mounted before and after.
Of course YMMV. Good luck.
