Actually the 1995 Ultra Anniversary Edition was the first EFI touring bike. I had one. I think EFi was an option up to about 03 or 04.

Don't toss the keihin CV, they are a superior carb. the mikuni cannot adjust for changes in air density due to altitude or temperature.

The CV carb does.

bigger throat is not always better- a wider throat can mean reduced velocity of the air/fuel into the cylinders.

too big a carb won't help much if you ever ride below 4000 rpm.

OP,
making your bike fit is part of the fun- most dealers have a "fit Shop" which allows to mock up bars and seats.

the fairing is non adjustable.

windscreen height can be matched to your height.

there are all kinds of baffles, deflectors etc---but the bigger hole you try to punch through the air, the more power than requires. It also results in a larger, deeper low pressure zone in the cockpit--- which is filled by air from below and behind--- so less controlled.

I size my windscreen so that the top edge "appears" 40' in front of the bike. I have had some good result with the fairing wind deflectors, opening them to fill the cockpit with controlled air- this helps reduce the air rushing from below ( which is a real bummer in the wet- I stretch a bungee across the mirrors stalks and hang a rag over to catch the spray)

helmet- all of a sudden the size of your head ( to the air) is doubled, and more leverage on your neck.
Some helmets are more aerodynamic than others.

When in hostile territory ( helmet law states), I wear a HD branded 1/2 which has a little ducktail at the rear.
what ever the ducktail does, this is the only helmet I have ever had that does not bobble or lift.

bars: some of the more common "i broke it" posts related to bar swap.

front brake light switch, ignition switch alignment and throttle by wire are all tricky. the manual has to be followed or you'll be posting.

read up on other rider's installs, get some tips and avoid the problems

Mike

thanks for the info guitar. It was only slightly annoying at 70+ which isn't a huge deal. I'm looking forward to tearing into this or another bike hopefully soon.

WJL24 has it correct. Fuel injection was introduced in 1995 on the 30th anniversary ElectraGlide.

the guys who go for "looks" are planning on NOT riding 10 hour days, day after day. they are more likely bar hopping, and looking at the pools of coloured light cast on the parking lot pavement by the led kits installed.

I tell you a slight irritation becomes a real bother after 6 hours knowing you have 3 or 4 more to go.

These bikes are less stable above 85 ( the batwing fairing unloads the front end, traction is lost)--- so realistic comfy touring is below 80 on the interstates. and i choose 65~70 on the 2 routes of the west, mostly.

haha, yeah I noticed they look a lot better with a shorter windshield, but for looks I'll just take the sporty. The girlfriend is coming on more and more trips, and b!tching more and more about the size of the sporty, and I really want to change the frame on it anyways. I think 70 is a good enough touring speed. I do 600 mile rides on the sporty all the time, so my first ride on a touring bike was quite an eye opener.
