i used some needle nose to carefully pull a bit on the cable, of course after I had backed it off a bit at the adjuster. Be careful to not lose the small round brass ends on the cable. they will quickly fly on their own. don't ask me how I know.

HDJoe, there are two cables there. You do not need to loosen the slack adjusters to get them off. Just pull one off ata time and remove them from the slots. There will be a little brass insert on the ends so be careful not to loose them. You can use a pair of needle nose pliers to grab hold of the cables to help you grip them, but be careful not to mess up the cable...be gentle. You need to pull them kinda forward, then out of the slot. There will be some tension on the cables and that is ok. You do not need slack to remove them or put them back on. The tension is from the throttle return spring. When You pull on the cable, its like you opening up the throttle. When you put them back on, be sure the cables are back in the "tracks" and return freely when you release the throttle.

For the life of me I can't get these cables off the old grip and I've replaced grips before. Time for a beer and contemplation.

Beer will help I just lifted the cable out of the slot and pushed it to the inside and pressed out the brass hold with a small screw driver. Getting the second cable on was PIA but witha little patiance you can get it on.

Not to question your wrenching skills, but you did loosen the adjusters by tightening them together? You didn't separate the adjuster nut from the thread?

Mine always show slack when I take them down for lubing.

Thanks for the suggestions. Once I got enough slack in the cables it was ten minutes of work.[sm=smiley20.gif]
