In Canada you cannot but ethanol free anywhere that I know of. I simply buy STP fuel additive which increases my octane level - Noticeable let me tell you! No knock or ping when added. Ethanol I believe is here to stay...
If you crunch the numbers, when we burn ethanol we still burn the same quantity of just the gas for the same miles as without. I lose 10% mileage with a 10% ethanol, that means I still used the same amount of straight gas regardless the BS alcohol added for the miles driven.
Time to set the politicos down and force them to do the math as well.
- it's all propaganda...someone's makin a lot of money on this ethanol stuff;
- ride often so the gas doesn't sit long;
- if you're not going to ride and will let it sit, it would be best to just drain tank instead of spending more money on additives, etc.
You always have the option to fill up at a local airport with av-gas. It's expensive, and has lots of octane, but no ethanol. I know a guy that does that with his old Triumph. Says the bike feels like it has a third cylinder with that fuel.
I buy Av gas for my two cycle equipment to get away from ethanol. But last week was talking to a guy who seemed a bit smart on the stuff. He claims av gas is slower burning that reg gas as aviation engines run at a fairly slow rpm level. He believes that it still burning as the exh valves are opening so you loose some of the power and if this is true,I'm wondering if this is hard on the exh valves.

Chime in anyone.
In the mid 70s avgas was 100 octane minimum. There was also an even higher grade. It will definitely burn slower but I don't know how it would affect/effect the valves.
