Harley davidson oil filter part number 63731-99A conversion to:
Wix 57148, it is listed as a 5 micron filter.
NAPA filter number: PS7148 (it is the same exact filter as the Wix)

Wix 5 micron for twincam 57348 chrome@ O'reillys
Napa 5 micron for twincam PS7148 black
Napa 5 micron for twincam PS7348 Chrome

Wix website shows a crossreference to HD #'s and clicking on the part # it shows the specs. the Napa 1348 and Wix 51348 are 19-21 micron according to the Wix Spec's

Good Luck!
Thanks for that info. That will be very helpful.

I have never heard of an oil change voiding the warranty.

Use a decent dino oil, and a harley filter and you can do it for cheap...and it isn't hard to do it yourself.

Keep your receipts and keep notes of the mileage and oil/filter used.

However, if you are at the point where $100 is going to put you into hardship mode, I would stick a for sale sign on it and try to get out from under the payment.

Just my 2 cents.

YES, Shell Rotella T lube is inexpensive, but NO, you are not just "getting by" by using it. You could use it all the time if you felt so inclined to do so, without any risk of damage to your motor.

But don't just take MY word for it:

I should mention this is my first harley but i have rode Jap bikes for 20+ years. I had the 1,000 mile oil change done at an independent shop (which cost me $165).

Now, I am ready to change oil soon since I am getting close to 5,000 miles. The problem is, my father passed away (which I had to cover funeral costs) and my wife got laid off. I can't afford to buy oil at $12/qt and I have read lots of articles on who uses what oil. Everybody argues and nothing really gets solved.

I can't afford to pay someone $160 to change my oil and to be honest, I can't afford to buy oil that costs $12/qt.

Is there a safe option for me or should I just sale the Harley and give up riding? Times are tough and I can't afford to do anything that will void warranties and even if I sold the bike, I would lose my ****!

I would love to be able to pick up some rotella and a cheap auto oil filter and just keep riding but I am on the verge of just giving up and letting the bike go. I can make the payments and still feed the family but I just can't afford the maintenance on this thing. Is there anyone out there who can help me make a decision or shed some light on this subject?

I believe that Rawhide HD in Olathe has a "sunday special" on oil changes for @$40- $50.

I would think that you could save enough in a few weeks of riding the bike in gas money alone to afford the oil change. I get twice the fuel economy on my sg that I get in my car. Just another perspective. I work in finance and that repo, while a quick fix, will really cause grief for years to come.

Thanks for that tip.

My wife absolutely squashed the idea of getting rid of the bike. She already has her feelers out for a new job. She says to figure out the oil change and things will be fine in a month or two.

Thanks for all the help fellas and hope to see you on the road.
