Around town, I don't have too much on the bike other than a couple of wrenches, torx and hex drivers, locking pliers and zip ties, but anytime I'm on an all day ride, or multi-day trips, I carry a tool roll. It doesn't have to be big, just a few well chosen tools.

Mine has the two HD closed end wrenches (36mm x 3/4" and 3/4" x 15/16"), several open end and combination wrenches: 5/8, 9/16, 1/2, 7/16 (two of those), 3/8 and 10mm. There's two 7/16 open end wrenches because that's what I need to adjust my pushrods.

It's also got a 3/8" drive ratchet with 13/16, 11/16 and 5/8 deep well spark plug sockets; 15/16, 3/4, 1/2 and 1/4 shallow sockets. Multi-bit screwdriver with flat, phillips, hex and torx bits. Additionally, I have hex L-wrenches, and a 1/4" bit driver with t15-t40 torx bits and extension. Regular pliers, needle nose vise grips, wire ties, electrical tape, electrical circuit tester, a couple of sections of 16 and 14 gauge wire, blue loctite, a bit of baling wire, tire plug kit and a can of fix-a-flat. And a very good, very sharp knife.

With that set, which will roll up compactly and stow in the bottom of a saddlebag, I can do most roadside repairs, including cable replacement, clutch and brake repairs, flat tires etc.
