Hi everyone. Probably been beat to death but I'll ask it anyway. I think I might have already asked before but I forget things now and then. Here we go, 05 RKC I like the wide white walls. I've replaced the rear several times only get about 7000 to 8000 miles (Dunlop 402s) on the rear. When I consider that tire is the only thing between my butt and the road I like to make sure it's a good one or at least like to think it is. Need to do both front and rear this time so I think I'd like to try a couple of Metzelers. Looking for a guidance from anyone who has ran the Dunlop 402s and the Metzeler 880s. I tried to find out if the sidewalls are the same as far as construction and wasn't to successful. Mileage between the two similar? Only ran Dunlops for the last 55,000 miles so I know what I get with another set of Dunlops.
Thanks
Can't comment on the life of the Metzler's but I ran 2 rear stock Dunlops on my EGC and got at least 18k out of each and they still had a nice little safety margin.
I would say you are definitely on the low end of the scale with your current tire.
You're kinda hard on your tires,I get 12k to 14k out of my rear Dunlop 402www and there not wore out,I like Metzelers, have them on my Goldwing they wear a little faster than the Dunlops, you might want to try the new Michelin Commander ll tires suppose to get double the tire wear than the Dunlops !
I recently wore out a set of Avon Venoms and replaced them with a set of Pirelli Night Dragons. Talk about stick to the road, even in wet weather. I got about 11K on the rear Avon and about 30K on the front.
I have never been able to get even 5000 out of a 402. It may still have tread left but the handling of them goes all to hell and they look all squared from the wear. Even though they are not WWW, I went to the E3's. Hopefully they wear and handle better in the long haul.
If you change to a different brand of tyre check the website to make sure you use the correct pressures for your bike. Some brands use higher pressures than stock. Avons for example are typically about 10% higher.
I have no experience with Metzler on touring class bikes, yet. I love Metzler 880 on my Sportster. They last about 30% longer, and the handling is 200% better. I've logged 65,000 miles on Metzler tires on the Sporty. Won't ever been any other tire on that bike.
