I'm headed to Sturgis this year and the last time I went my Vanson jacket spent most of the time strapped to the top of my bags. This year I'd like to find a light weight jacket that provides some protection in case of the worst but that is a good bit cooler than my current Langlitz jacket that's perfect for year round riding in the Pacific North West.
A textile mesh jacket, I have a HD Switch Back jacket with zip out panels and HD Classic Cruiser jacket with a wind/water proof removable liner both have armor pockets. I hardly wear my leather jacket any more.
I just picked up a H-D Contention mesh jacket and I really like it. I also have a TourMaster Air Intake II that I really like. The TourMaster is a little sturdier and has armor as well as a zip out thermal liner for cooler days and a zip out rain liner for rainy days. It also has reflective piping which is nice at night or in a heavy rain.
You might also consider a Kevlar shirt instead of another jacket. Good protection and also breathable. Read the reviews and make an informed decision and see if this would work for your application.
it's not really in the harley image sweet spot but i wear a joe rocket textile mesh with armor (without the back board). it's kept me cool thru 120 degree desert runs and, with the liner in and a fleece pullover, warm in 45 degree temps.
I ride with an old Vanson Vent Max 2 "bones" style with the bones all the way down the arms.
It would be equivalent to the Vent Max 4 now. http://www.vansonleathers.com/main_p...ns/textile.htm
Very cool , good armor , nicely made.

I have a tourmaster draft jacket that I wear when it gets really warm. very cool while moving and fully armored. Not much for harley style but functional.
BMW makes some really nice mesh gear... it's friggin pricey though.
I bought one of their Venting Machine jackets about 5 years ago, been very happy with it.
