Default Road King Security System

Has anyone put a security system on their 2000 Road King? If so how did it work out and is it worth the money?

I think you've answered part of your question by thinking about putting one on, must be a need to justify it, I know on my insurance, it brings the rate down !

I installed a TSSM (security system) on my 2004 Road King. I don't know if it's the same system and installation process for a 2000, or not. With that said, it was pretty straight-forward. With the service manual for my bike and with Internet access, I had all the information I needed. There's a couple of procedures you have to do, that are time-critical, but like I said the information is available if you look.

It's worth it to me. It disables the motor when set, so if you set your personal code (off the default), the chances someone is going to ride off on your bike are slim to none. It also sets off a siren (separate purchase) that's pretty loud. So if anyone disturbs the physical position of the bike, it will sound. Finally, I have a remote doodad that will page me (up to 1/4 mile away if there are no obstructions between me and the bike) if the alarm goes off.

The common wisdom is, if someone wants your bike and they're pros, they're going to take it. But the alarm won't make it easy. I set it every night, in my garage, and always when I go on trips and the bike is sitting out.

I got the system off eBay, NOS, for about 100 bucks. The remote pager was another 80. Make sure whatever you order is compatible with your 2000. I got the Harley system, but I understand there are other manufacturers that make alarms.

I have a 2000 RKC and this spring I installed a Scorpio i900. I like it. With the factory connector kit, the install was a breeze. I did not get the perimeter sensor accessory but I did get the ignition disable accessory and had a friend splice it in to the fuel pump. You cannot start the bike when the alarm is on. The alarm works as advertised and I have not had any issues with it so far.

I would say for a little extra peace of mind it was worth it to me.

You are gonna get the "if they want it they will take it" but I say yes that's true of the pros but I want to deter the opportunist jerk who might try and take my bike or just F with it.
