Sometimes just before the automatic primary chain adjuster moves up to the next notch, the primary chain will have enough slack to cause a knocking or clunking noise. You can sometimetimes speed this process up by running the bike up pretty good say, in third gear, and get out of the throttle real quick, then reaccelerate . It's during the acceleration that will cause maximum slack on the bottom on the primary chain, and the adjuster will most likely jump up to the next tightening notch. Make sure you do this on a back road, and make sure no one is behind you.
