Take the stock pipes and set em on you bench wrapped in a clean towel. Take an 1 1/2" carbide hole saw and set it inside and let the drill spin em out. It will take max 10 mins. Dont worry about reaching inside to get the baffles out, just lift the pipe and let em drop thru to the front side. This is what they look like:
And you want to do this why exactly? All you do by doing this is bring anger and the law down on everyone. I ride my 2001 Fatboy with SE2 (CycleShack) slip ons that are definitely not street legal BUT - they're not insanely loud. They're also what I tuned the bike to back when attitudes were a little different. However - I was at Gettysburg when a large group ride went through and I gotta tell you - the anger and frustration among the general public was palpable, and the riders with the loudest pipes were reving their engines as in neutral as they crawled through the town. This is not something that we need. Is it any wonder the average person doesn't care when a biker gets killed by a cage? Again - not what we need. My 2 cents.
Not sure what privileges (definition: aright, immunity, or benefit enjoyed only by a person beyond the advantagesofmost) he is flushing away by putting gutted slip-on's with a set of stock head pipes on his bike, I ran these for a few months before buying my CFR slip ons and tru dual headers (which are much louder) and never got any extra benefits. If you could supply a list of said privileges to us here at the forum it would be greatly appreciated because I just might put them back on my bike.
A perfect example of why there are more and more noise laws aimed at bikes.
I got ya man,
You just want some loud *** trash that sounds nasty to get attention at ralleys.
Just go to Home depot and get some 1.25 electrical metallic tubing, cut it to length, slash cut, paint it flat black, get some hose clamps from plumbing department, 2 per side, one to hold the rear up to the saddle bag supports.
I think DohaDex (after serving his country for 22 year in the Airforce) and myself (Marine with 10 years and 6 deployments) know a little bit about freedoms. Just because you have loud pipes doesnt mean you have to go screaming into your neighborhood revving the motor and doing burnouts at 3am. My bike is loud and that is how I like it if you dont like loud pipes then dont put them on your bike.
Frog13:
As for being "not so bright" I think you should know a person before passing judgement. I think of myself as very bright, in fact, at the end of August I will start grad school at one of the highest ranked engineering schools in the country. But you are probably right there is no way that me or anyone with loud pipes is bright.
First. as always, thank you for your service! However, as for not being bright, I was relating to common sense, something not taught at grad school, but only learned through experience, I know, I also hold a grad degree and believe I have some good common sense, plus I'm an old f&^K. I've been riding 40+ years, I get the loud pipes, but the public is not putting up with it anymore and there is legislation being proposed every day to limit biker's rights, be they helmets, pipes or other mandated loss of choices. Every individual who contributes to help these people support their cause hinder the rest, the example that is best is what happens if we reach the point of no modifications to our motorcycles whatsoever? No pipes, no tuners, no apes, no tire size changes, you get it ...... you're a smart guy. All we're asking is that people use that common sense to protect their own rights and others. Now, my pipes aren't quiet, Jackpot 4", but I also don't bug anyone with them becasue they are respectful. Obnoxiously loud, that just pisses John Q. Public off.
Just Amazes me that a Hard Working Man with a Harley ask a question about Loud Pipes on Hd Forums and gets all this crap from other Harley Owners... hell .. you would have been treated better on the "Wingers" Forums .... i bet they would have at least been more respectful .... very sad to hijack a mans thread with insults .... wow!
