Thinking of putting a 21 on my '11 road glide custom but would like some input from those with experience. I would be lowering front by 1". The lowering is what worries me. I know I would lose some travel but the wife and I together weigh less than 300 lbs. will I still have a decent ride? Performance in cornering? Better off not lowering? Just don't want to spend a bunch and regret it.
I have a 21" and lowered my front end 2", with the monotubes the bike handles and rides better. If you do a 21" and go -1 you shouldn't have any problems. I strongly recommend the monotubes, front end dive is almost nonexistent with them.
I have the cheap 1" HD kit and it handles great! Ride is decent! I've seen to many other post that said people couldn't tell the difference from the mono tubes and the cheap lowering kit... Therefore I would strongly recommend doing your homework before you waste a bunch of money on the mono tubes.
I have a 21" on my FLHX and to be honest, it just looks and feels right IMO. The front is lowered 2" and I'm running progressives. I have no issues with bottoming out and the ride is still good, but not great.
On my FLHT, I'm only running a 18" but I did lower it 1" with race tech gold valve emulators. It rides really nice and the Ohlins in the rear compliment it.
The more stroke the better the ride, so to me splitting the difference by going with the 21" and lowering your bike 1" as you are contiplating would be the best of both worlds.
My input is don't do it unless you do the rear wheel too. Contrary to popular belief, you can see it...
Shakey
Thanks for the replays. The plan is to do the rear as well. Even if you couldnt see it id know the rear is mismatched and that would drive me nuts. That's enough positive responses for me to go through with it.

Before I "wasted" my money on the progressive monotubes, I tried different fork oil and a few other things, a little help, but the monotubes are a great "waste" of money, I'd do it again in a heart beat.
Not to ***** up your thread...but I have a 21" on the way also. The rear is already lowered one inch. Probably going to get the drop in kit. for the front...should I go
1"...2"...1.5" ???
