Default What's your RPM?

I am going to pick up my new RKC next week, and after reading some threads on this board I have a question. After years on BMW Sport Tour bikes, I was used to running at 4000 to 6000 RPM for better response in shifting and performance. Reading some of the HD threads, I have noticed some riders to like to run at low RPM's (2500 or lower) to higher RPM's. I believe that normal is around 3500, but is this too slow?. Will it make any difference in the 07 transmissions to run a little higher?. This is my first HD so I was just wondering what more experienced HD riders believe.

Your bike stock will hit the rev limiter at 5700. I think most would agree to try and keep your motor above 2200-2500 when cruising. They're fine at 3500
imho for long stretches and that'll get you down the road pretty good.

Keep it over 2,000 rpm's in 4th 5th and 6th. a lot of guys are lugging the motor running through the gears .

Mine is happiest between 2500-3000. I can use lower RPM in lower gears but in 6th you probably don't want to go much below 2700 RPM otherwise you will be lugging. It will rev quite a bit higher but you will probably only need the higher RPMs if your passing someone.

Your RKC won't come with a tach. So there you go. Just do what feels right. Its a big old motor and it'll talk to you.
