I just wanted the guy from Texas to know that it is often over 100f in Nebraska JUST LIKE TexASS ....DOH !.. ...........and i still wear jeans and boots .

Because as i said i am short and would get burned every single time i ride without them .

If your foolish enough and abnormally tall feel free to wear your flip flops and shorts .. ha ha ha ha ha

After all all about freedom and fun .

It's a nice cool 90f today .

Denim may as well be saran wrap at any speed about 10 mph. Leather is certainly better than nothing. What makes me laugh the most is that some of the people who are the most adamant about always wearing all the gear are the ones who don't wear helmets. How does that make any sense!!
I have a friend that is a rehab nurse at Baylor in Dallas and she has seen countless head injuries as a result of riders going down with no helmet or one of the small token helmets. Hearing her tell her stories about teaching these victims how to walk, talk and eat again is more than enough to make me NEVER ride without a full-faced helmet on. For these people it's not an issue of "recovering" from the injury so much as starting all over again. Even if they do fully recover physically they're usually not the same as before, their personalities are so different that their relatives say it's like living with a stranger. Head injuries are scary, spooky stuff.

Speaking of riding in heat, over 93 degrees you should be covering up exposed skin since the "hot wind" is actually working to heat your body rather than cooling it.

I burned my leg in the same place 3 years ago, while backing up my Dyna in shorts. Gotta watch those pipes! I really don't have much of a scar from it now. You can kind of see a little darker spot where it was, but it's not noticeable.

I ride in shorts once in a while, on short trips. Honestly after burning myself though, I don't enjoy it as much as i used to. I'm always paranoid that I'll accidentally brush the pipes, or catch a bee, or even the small rocks hurt more on the bare legs.

I've been wanting to get a couple pairs of those cargo pants that zip off into shorts. I think they'd be really good for riding in. They're far from being in style these days, so I haven't found them in any stores for a while...

Exactly and that is my point. I've ridden uprights in one form or another all my life with and without gear and have had a couple stingers here and there. This is my first wide-bodied HD and I'm still figuring stuff out. Those big pipes underneath are perfectly positioned to give a previous upright rider an education. It's also good to know that if I forget to iron my shirt I can always take care of that in the parking lot!
