Done it before and will probably do it again at some point. Along with occasional short sleeve shirt and some times no helmet. Road rash sucks no matter what part of the body it's on. A concaved skull also sucks but everyone takes chances at some point on a bike....
I burned my leg in the same place 3 years ago, while backing up my Dyna in shorts. Gotta watch those pipes! I really don't have much of a scar from it now. You can kind of see a little darker spot where it was, but it's not noticeable.
I ride in shorts once in a while, on short trips. Honestly after burning myself though, I don't enjoy it as much as i used to. I'm always paranoid that I'll accidentally brush the pipes, or catch a bee, or even the small rocks hurt more on the bare legs.
I've been wanting to get a couple pairs of those cargo pants that zip off into shorts. I think they'd be really good for riding in. They're far from being in style these days, so I haven't found them in any stores for a while...
I have a pair of them made of ballistic nylon. good for riding. Unzip when I get off the bike, and zip the legs back on when i get back on.
