So I finally break down and decide to pull the trigger. I am ordering a FLHTP (yes I know I can get used cheaper...another thread and time.) I was quoted a good OTD price in my opinion. I go in yesterday, my sales person isn't there and I get somewhat of a runaround from anther one steering me to another FLHTP they got in. Gives me a quote (has items on it that are not stock.) I explain what I was already doing and quote the OTD. He gets with the sales manager and suddenly I'm being told that number sounds "sketchy". I leave.
I call my original salesperson, tell them the story and verify my OTD. I'm good. I drive down to put my deposit down. My salesperson goes and talks to the sales manager for a minute and then comes out apologetic, as she says she didn't even think about this, but that the production of '12's is over. The sales manager comes out says the same thing and then says he'll call and find out if my color choice is available on a '13. He walks off. My salesperson apologizes again and also apologizes for my "wasted" trip.
What?? wasted trip?? How long is this phone call going to take? Salesperson says she'll call me as soon as they find out....
I'm not paranoid, but I think I'm getting played. I'm betting they're going to try and move me to the other bike, which would be fine, but I wanted the original air ride seat. Nor do I want to get told I need to pay for a two tone (all be it nice) paint job.
Okay rant over.
But, given it's June can anyone confirm the '12's are done?
Sounds like the sales person may have quoted you a price without going through the sales manager and now the manager isn't willing to sell for that. Now they are coming up with something to get out of it. They can't just say they want more for the same bike after an agreement has already been made. Make then stick to it.

No doubt I'll make them stick with it. As for the quote, that quote was confirmed to the saleperson by the manager in the first place. I guess we'll see, but I still don't get the whole "I have to check if they'll offer this color in '13" quote. It's a phone call, so why rush me out? It's a police bike and the colors don't normally change is my understanding.
It doesn't sound sketchy. Harley usually announces the next model year bikes in late July and delivers to the dealers in late August. Ceasing production of the previous model year to start manufacturing the current model year a few months before delivery isn't unreasonable.
As far as your OTD price, unless it's down in writing on something that's been signed by them, "Make then stick to it" isn't going to work. Either party can walk away until the contracts are signed.

Yeah the mid-year switch for production makes sense. And sadly, you are right on the in writing. I didn't even think of it, but the manager told the salesperson NOT to take my deposit until "he found out". Hence, no contract or paperwork. Dammit.
I seriousy doubt a dealer can place a new order for a 2012 how long ago did you get the quote. HD kind of tells them what they are getting and my bet is the police version has a smaller window than the rest. I doubt that they will sell you a 13 at the same price since their price wont be the same, thats probabbly why they have not called you back. Seriously I would find a different dealer

The quote was well under a month ago. As for the ordering, you can order a cop glide at any time, but if you're not a dept. you have a 120 wait period to receive the bike, I was cool with that. As for the '13 price point, you are correct it would be more, but my feeling is the increase would be minimal and with the quote they gave me, they'd still make a fair profit.
I just think they're going to try and steer me to the one in stock that is not bone stock. I get it; try to move what you have vs. order another unit.
Also, all of this occurred today, so I'll give them until tomorrow for the call back. Otherwise, yeah a different dealer is a consideration.

A bit off topic, but I think this year and going forward, they are going to move back the introduction of the next model year bikes until late August. I'm not sure when they start making them tho - the production date on my 2012 was July 2011
I've been on the road a couple of weeks, but I seem to recall Thunder Tower in Columbia having a Police bike or two on the floor a couple of weeks ago. Hollar at them...
