Been ridin for 48yrs & done 90% of my work. Now I take mine in to the dealership because "I CAN" & don't want to mess with it anynmore!!! Just like Texas Fat Boy I have someone mow my yard. I also take my care to the car wash. But thanks for your message. Ride Safe.
As long as my bike is under warranty, I'll go to my little indy to do the maintenance jobs. After that, we'll see. If I can afford the maintenance jobs as for now, he will work further on my bike.
I'm a mechanic myself, but feel too old/too tired to get laid under my bike to do my maintenance myself...
Just like getting to a restaurant, why would you do that while you can stay comfy at home and cooking stuff?
I do my own routine maintenance and adjustments and install accessories. I do most everything but tire changes. I DON'T consider myself a wrench but do have decent garage, a lift and the right tools... oh, and a manual!
Everyone here does not have the same experience as other's when it comes to working on these bikes. My point was to say, you don't have to be intimidated because you have never worked on a bike. It WAS NOT to question how some spend their money. I think we all want to spend our hard earned money wisely and I wanted to point out how just maybe some here could do that with a little encouragement.
Yup Live Free, Ride Free,..just ensure you have a garage to store the 17 Pages worth of Tools, Listed in the Service Manuals "Appendix A" (which does not include the jack nor stands or common hand tools) which you are going to buy to ***"attempt"*** to fix your bike?
Ya spending $$$ on property taxes and every tool beneath the sun to (maybe?) fix a bike. Sounds like a great $$$ spending idea to me.
May I remind/fore warn you though the word *Tool* would imply you are going to attempt to do the (W) word. Before you do though,... read the definition of the (W) word below.
WORK---Most commonly a futile endeavour, often involving sweat, & toil, and occasionally the loss of ones own bodily fluids. (and on rare occasions bodily parts!)
Or if done correctly! The loss of the bodily fluids/parts of the one foolish enough to ASSist you in the endeavor.

Reason: Additional Thoughts
Not everyone is a mechanic, but maintaining your bike is part of the relationship with your machine. If you can't change oils ( if you don't want to or choose not to that's different ) on your bike, you are a moron and should not be in charge of any kind of machinery.

This blog is getting crazy. So, you are a moron if you don't change your own oil? It's a joke....right? What if your rich...are you still a moron if you don't change your own oil?
As Lincoln said, " Better to be thought of as a fool than to speak and remove all doubt"

Wow Dude, that's a pretty ballsy (and just plain stupid) second post. What are you, 14!?

Wow... really?!? Remember, when throwing stones there is always someone stronger that is capable of throwing bigger ones back.
There are two threads I just can't turn my head away from... they are train wrecks. This one, and the RUB thread. Both show the two very different mentalities of the Harley rider. It's quite disconcerting to say the least.
But oh, the entertainment value. Only on the internet can one give people an open forum, sit back and watch Rome burn.

This is not rocket science. People that don't do maintenance on their vehicles are either lazy, don't want to ruin their manicure or scared to try something new. To the person thinking people need every tool listed in their service manual, I replaced a blown head gasket in a state park with the tools I had with me.
