Default Shifter shaft...thru the primary

has anyone had to replace this? this will b my second time. what am i doing wrong? thanks, vinnie

I had to replace it on my 2000 Ultra. The problem was that the teeth on the spline were too fine (to allow for more precise adjustment) and they stripped out. You are either stepping down too hard on the shift lever, or the shift lever gets loose on the spline and strips the teeth

look at new shifter too - new teeth grabbing on new teeth, rather than worn on new.

I replaced mine about a month ago with less than 20k miles. It's a cheap piece of crap metal. Just be sure to torque the new one down really good and don't be stingy with the loc-tite.

I understand it that the shifter is softer material than the spline shaft.

You might consider this instead of pulling the primary. I never used one but it sounds interesting.

You cut it off with a dremel tool. They have an instructional video on their site. I saved the link as a just in case because I thought it was a pretty good idea.

Theres a video showing you how he removed a lever but its a model not a true representation of what youll be up against....so your question is the million dollar question.
