Default Not thinking and messed up....

Did a bonehead thing today. I tried searching, but not alot out there. While doing my clutch adjustment for my 5000 mile maintenance, instead of turning the cable adjuster in to loosen the slack, I opened it all the way. I then wondered why there was no slack at the lever. Instead of re-tracing my steps and finding my mistake, I just pulled hard enough to get my lever off. (In my defense, had a ton of kids running around). Anyway adjusted the clutch and just before I put the lever back on I realized I had adjusted the cable the wrong way. I loosened it up and put back on the lever. (and redid the clutch adjustment). Now I can't adjust enough slack out of the cable. With the adjuster all the way out I still have about an inch of slack in my lever....Anyone have any ideas? Do I need a new cable or did I jam the mechanism in the trans cover?? or did I really screw something up?
Like I said I did a search in the tech section, but not too much there that helps.
Thanks for any help.
J.B.

release the pressure on the clutch rod by loosening the clutch adjuster.

once you have slack, work the lever to reset the ball and ramp mechanism under the tranny cover ( right side).

then collapse the cable adjuster, and start over.

1.) kids and dogs out of the way*

2.) manual ?

* I have 2 friends who had their bikes knocked off the lift, 1 by kid, 1 by dog.

Seriously, you are blaming the kids?
In another post today a guy blamed his dog because he sat his gas tank on a bucket and the bucket fell over.

I think he was just venting that he had a lot of activity going on. He's not blaming kids or the dog. He's pissed off but he'll get if worked out.

Another day in paradise!!!!!

Yep, flipped the cam under the clutch actuation cover on the right hand side.

Worst case you'll have to pull the cover and reset the ramp.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the responses. I've had quite a few Harleys and have usually done all my own maintenance, but never had to mess around with that part of the motor before (other than the adjustments), so I was lost. Going on a trip to upper Michigan in a week and had all kinds of bad scenarios going through my head.

And no I wasn't blaming the kids, it was my screw up, that was more of a joke.

Thanks again,

J.B.

I guess living and working on a farm my whole life by myself, I never had anyone to blame my screw ups on. I always had to fix it and move on.

In the post about the dog, the poster said he felt like kicking the dog. I have never felt like kicking my dog.

As far as blaming the kids when you are mad at yourself, I guess I had my fill of that when my dad was pissed off at my drug addicted brother, then would yell at me when he screwed up because my brother wasn't around.

I guess I was just venting too.

Hey, no problem. It was a poor attempt at humor. I still can't believe I did it. Either out or in and I picked out. I'll never do that again.
