Default Check your front tire sidewalls

I checked my stock front tire on my 12 SG with 1300 miles and there's several small cracks on both sides the largest around a half inch, heading to the dealer on Thursday.

Sounds like dry rot, but shouldn't be seeing that on a 2012!

Never thought about it. Going to check tonight when I get home. If there are problems you can bet the dealer will hear about it. I'll post back if I find anything.

Hopefully the dealer wont give me any grief on thursday, they of course said they never heard of the problem the usual response. I did a search on here and it looks like its a wide problem for late 2011 and 2012 touring bikes with some getting theirs replaced a couple of times. My rear tire looks fine. I wonder if I left it alone if it would blow or is it just cosmetic?

I picked up my 2011 SG last year in March, had the exact same thing, in under 2k miles of riding. Called the dealer, took a couple pics, they replaced it - no charge. They shouldn't give you any problems replacing it.

I see and read about this all too often. I want to make sure the date is current on any tire I purchase, be it bike or cage.

I checked mine last night. No cracking on either the front or the back. Both tires were made the seventh week of 2012 (based on the number in the oval 0712), which makes me feel good. I wonder if there's a specific range of dates where the problems are more prevelant. It would be interesting to know. Anyway, all is good for now but I'll certainly keep my eye on them.

Take care.
