Default Speaker Crossovers

I'm putting speakers in my lowers and right now I have 2ohm J&Ms in the fairing, which have built in crossovers. The speakers that are going in the lowers are Polk mm651s which are 2.7ohm speakers. I plan on wiring these in series. The Polks have external crossovers. Is there any advantage to hooking up the Polk crossovers, when I'm wiring these in series?
The amp is a 2 channel, 2ohm amp.

Thanks, Bob

79 looks, and no replies. Is this a no brainer question that I should know the answer? Or is this a question that nobody has the answer to???

well...I live in a world of pro-audio ( concert sound systems) and the 12 volt audio world is full of snake oil and junk...more so bikes than cars.

here's the deal; the "crossover" you refer to is more likely a "filter" which keeps low frequencies from hitting the "tweeters" . LF to the tweeters would blow them up.

these "passive crossovers" typically consume 20% or more of the available amp power and convert it to heat.

the impedance rating of the "assembly" is the total impedance of the speaker/tweeter/crossover.

if you wire all your stuff in series, you have about 4.25 ohm ( nominal) load on the amp.

so much for #80, huh?

Make sure that the amp is truly 2ohm stable. If you go below 2ohms the amp will have issues and you will also generate much more heat. Wiring them in series will raise the ohm load and that will also result in less power output from your amp. The crossover points will not be effected.

Thanks for the answers, I won't hook up the cross overs.
The amp is 2ohm stable. Running the speakers in series should make each channel 4.7 ohms, which should be safe for this amp. It is stamped right on each channel not to go below 2 ohms.

Thanks again, Bob
