Default Speakers or Headphones how about both?

Purchased a new 2012 Ultra Limited. 1st ultra that my wife and I have ever owned. The classic(2004) that we owned before didn't have the sound-intercom-cb in it. Our problem is she purchased a new Harley helmet and can not here the speakers playing when wearing it. I do not wear a helmet. It seems that Harley has set up this system to work- headphones on, or speakers on, but not both. We would like both to work.I have tried the earbud thing and feel a little unsafe about using them because really good one's(s-plugs) don't let you hear any outside noise. We don't want to use any mics either. Just want to listen to music. Has anyone been able to change the setup on the bike to have both work? thanks

hmm.

I wire the ear phone jack ( for my earbuds) to the speaker lugs.

I then use an inline volume control on the earbuds.

so I normally have the speakers and earbuds playing at the same time. ( although the speakers are at a pretty low level- I do this to get the signal [music] to noise [the electrical/static etc.] ratio up higher- the inline volume control is then needed to reduce the entire program level

so, do that with her headphones, as long as she has her inline vol. control ( radio shack) it'll keep her head from blowing up.

wire lft spkr + to headphone tip

rt spkr + to headphone ring

rt spkr - to headphone sleeve

mike

Ya, I thought of that but kinda hate to redo the new bike thing and was hoping that maybe there was some sort of reprograming the stock Harmon-kardon radio or maybe even reworking the dash switch. Anyone tried that? Just would like to use the system in the bike so we each could control our own volume.

when you say "both" as in both front and rear speakers or all speakers and also the 7-pin headphone jack that comes on the bike. When I asked my Harley dealer about this, they said it couldn't be done.

I agree Harely is wrong with this design. It makes no sense to me.

Just wish there was a way to work this out. Would like to put a pair of JM Rokkers in front, and I know with her getting the new full face helmet, I'm going to have to turn them up so loud that I'll be deaf after 500mi.

I actually prefer wearing ear buds.
I use the 'body heat adjusting foam tips' and I can hear sounds around me just fine and the buds never fall out.

It's a lot better on my hearing too, because it cuts out the wind noise and I listen to the music at a much lower volume.
I found the foam tips at Radio Shack.

so you pull off the ends of the earbuds and put these on? what kind of buds are you using? I have already purchased the adaptor(7pin-1/8") and have tried a bud through them and it seems to work pretty good, but they kept all the outside noise out so well that you felt like you were under water, kinda freaky on the road.

I use a set of Westone 1's that i wear under my FF helmet. These came with several different tips and i finally found a set that is comfortable and doesn't block that much outside sound.

I do want to get an inline volume adapter because i can only have the stereo at a single bar. That maybe because i use the AVC and at times it may be a tad loud to use with the ear buds.
