What is the average milage most guys are getting on a set of brake pads (front rear) on an 08 ultra classic under normal braking conditions.
I have 9100 miles and pads look like they are getting worn down. But I don't know the thickness of a new pad.
I have 27K on my originals. Started making some noise last year but they still brake fine. I did buy new ones though. Probably going to do the job this weekend.
The stockers throw out a lot of dust. Consider the Lyndall Zplus or Gold Plus pads. A lot less dust. I got a whole set of Zplus (three pair) on Ebay for $125.
My bike has 11,000 miles and replaced the pads and installed floating rotors on the front. Getting a slight rub; Harley says its normal...but the noise drives me crazy. Spacers are set right and good. The axle is torqued correct. Pisses me off, if I new a better pad with less dust and quiet, I'd trash my new pads ...already taken it in to Harley and they say it's normal. :-(

Yeah, sometimes I turn the engine off a few houses away and coast home. Noisy as f*ck! Don't see how it can be normal, but apparently it is.
if you drag your feet a lot, you can get great mileage out of them!!!
on a more serious note, downshifting to reduce brake wear works very well, the downside is clutches are much more expensive than brake pads!!! I don't down shift to slow down, thats what brakes are for!! (I mean for coming to a stop, not slowing down to go into a turn where you are going to use that gear on acceleration)
Replaced my fronts at 23,000. They were worn out. Still have the originals in the rear on my 08 Ultra.
This blows me away. I had an 08 Street Glide that I had 61K miles on and did not need to change the front pads. I replaced the rear pads at about 15K. I do hit the rears first and then modulate the fronts depending on how quick I need to start. I can't believe the fronts would be wore out that quick.
