last year was 2002 i think... from there they're all gonna blow up and cause nothing but catastrophic failure resulting in HD making more money by selling more engines and aftermarket parts... hahaha jk
That was what I thougt, since the current bearing being used by HD is only rated to 100 hp max. My bike with the 103 has a HP rating in the 90's.
Being new to the forum and this being my first Harley. I just wonder why everyone speaks of adding pipes, cams and generating more HP. But no one goes to the obvious upgrade that would make the most sense, by switching out to a timkin bearing set.

a bearing only rated to 100hp? do show me this info in writing, please.
Here is a u-tube explaining the difference, but speaks more of catastrophic failure. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uh9FVm3Hv8 But the OEM style roller bearing in time will develops flat spots on each of the individual rollers.
I believe I read the HP rating in this article, http://www.jamesrussellpublishing.bi...buyharley.html As far as being able to find a rating from one of HD suppliers is a search that has produced no results (yet).
I just don't understand why a company would stop the use of a proven design, just to create a kit to bleed the consumer for more money.
Don't get me wrong, I love my hog and the ride it delivers, but...

don't think so, not unless you have motor upgrades you haven't listed, if your stock the best you'll see is 72hp/ 87tq.

Just as was stated, ease of assembly and less labor intensive in manufacturing.
Has there been many catastrophic failures using the straight roller bearing versus the taper Timken style? Sounds like a sales pitch from a performance builder to entice fear.

I can only state what the salesman claimed the HP rating is, since Harley does not put it in the specs, but Harley on there website does show the 2012 SG 103 Motor produces 100 lbs of torque.
Which kinda leads me to believe the salesman.
Anyways, be it a sales pitch or not Timkin is a better designed bearing and may be a little less economical to use in manufacturing.
But really look at the price of the bike!
Shouldn't people expect just a little more than bearings that press easily?
Oh' by the way it really sucked not having power for a few days. So I appologize for this delayed post.
