Default 2003 Road King Classic bag question

Now that they have some age on them I dislike the leather over plastic and want some hard bags. Can anyone tell me what year touring bikes hard bags will interchange?

99 and up fits, all you have to do is adjust your mount brackets. I would imagine that earlier models fit as well but I have no experience with those.

Check craigslist and ebay. Sometimes you can find some that are priced decent, so it makes the cost of painting them a little easier to handle. Cuz of course, the chance of finding a pair that are the same color of your bike is like finding a needle in a haystack.

When you say adjust your mount brackets, do you mean my current leather over plastic bag mounts I have now will work on the new hardbags?

Yes it will work. I went from leather to Hard Bags on my 07 RKC. Bought mine off eBay for $550.00 complete. like new condition and they were the perfect color. vivid black with silver pinstripe.

Don't fall into the trap of purchasing bottoms only or lids only. The latching hardware will set you back as much as the bags if you purchase separately.. be patient keep checking eBay, and grab the first set that is in decent shape.

Oh man I am stoked cause I thought would have to buy all new mounting stuff also! And yea, I already seen prices on the hinge/latch assemblies, could not believe the $$ I just missed out on a decent pair of hardbags with hinges here in Austin for $200 They went to the first guy who called ( I was second in line)

As said, your current hardware will work, just move the brackets around. Mine came with leather bags....that was the FIRST change I did. I purchased keyed locks from the dealer too so I have 1 key for everything.

I replaced my '08 leather bags with hard police bags from an '11 police Electra Glide. I like the police bags better. Got a great deal on eBay. They are a perfect match vivid black with silver pinstripe. As stated earlier all I did was remove the leather bags put to the side. Loosened up the brackets a little. Mount the new bags, get the brackets in place and tighten them up. Put the pins in place. Perfect. All I had to was order new locks. Check out the classified section on this site and eBay and be patient. Good luck.
