Default 1000 Mile Checkup Question

My Dealer wants $500.00 for this. Is this something you have to have the Dealer do to in order to keep the warranty. It seems a little high for changing the oil and tighting the bolts. Just saying.

Your dealer is high on crack. Most places charge $250 - $350 for a 1K service, which is still a bit expensive.

You do not have to have the dealer do it to keep your warranty, but the service needs to be done by someone....properly. It is a very important service to do, as there will be alot of adjusting of things. Make sure to have a record of it, no matter who does the work.

Buy a maunal for $60 bux and do it yourself.
The 1 K check has got to be one of the biggest rip offs that there is.
The biggest/time consuming thing that they do is to change your fluids.

I mean really, who has ever heard of taking in a brand new vehicle @1000 miles and then paying another $350 -500 to have them change your fluids and tighten some bolts and allegedly give it an inspection?

I didn't let the dealer do it,
I did it myself, and so can you and you don't need a jack to do it either, but you will have to lay on the floor and it will be some what messy with oil and what not.

Can't top that answer other it needs to be thoroughly and right, probably the most critical service that will be done to your Bike .. But the charge is excessive.. Would try to find a good Indy for a more reasonable price.. Or get the Manual and Do it right yourself with a little help from here or another Rider..

Yeah, dont let the dealer get you for 500. If u cant do it or dont want to do it then look around like the others say. You will probably find someone for around 300.

Look for another dealer if you can. I let them do the first one because it's the best time to find problems after break in. Then I do them myself after that

My delaer charged about 1/2 of what you were quoted. If there are other dealers in the area, shop around. then like the previous post said, get the service manual and do them yourself.

As has been said, and will be said again, DO IT YOURSELF. Get the manual, read it, do it. Keep your receipts and a dated copy of the Maintenance Schedule for your records. There ARE somethings a Dealer must/needs to do, but the majority of the maintenance can and should be done by yourself. Will help you to get to know more about your bike and its a good safety precaution to inspect your machine. There isnt anything that needs to be done to your bike that someone on this forum hasn't already done and will help you do it yourself. YouTube is FULL of videos showing DIYs and such. On the other hand, if money is no object, then pay the Man and ride. Your call.
