I'm 5'9 have 6.5" Clearview recurve, fork baffle, fairning deflectors. Huge difference. I jus recentally did a set of lowers. Even mire difference. Very calm at 75mph.
I've spent a lot of money trying many different windshields, fairing lowers, etc, all to no avail. I've found that it's dependent on the the direction of the prevailing wind. If I have a tail wind, smooth as glass, head wind or cross wind, my vision is impaired due to vibration from the buffeting. HD needs to put a little effort into the batwing design and improve it. I've never tried a 10" or 12" HD windshield but then again I bought a SG for the sleek minimalist design so I stick with my solid black 6.5" Klock Werks which is a good compromise between looks and performance. I've read every post I see on SG buffeting hoping to find the magic combination. Good luck in your quest!
Why don't you buffeting complainers try a FF helmet, then a taller shield. F*ckin' problem solved for petes sake. Or stop riding on 30mph crosswind days. Whatever.

Becauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse this doesn't solve the problem (Einstein). Even w/FF helmet + taller w/s it only helps w/air from "above" the fairing/shield & does nothing to prevent "lower" airflow which pretty much most of the problem. Also...wearing FF helmet isn't even a factor b/c buffeting shakes your "head" - including whatever you're wearing (helmet, no helmet, etc...) so it's not a possible solution at all...
Now, FWIW, here's what I did to solve the dreaded buffeting cycle; (1) taller shield (KW 8.5"), (2) fairing wings (HD's set that opens), (3) HD fork baffle & (4) vented lower fairing. Sure adding these "four" upgrades was $pendy, but it worked & you can't put a price on riding comfort/safety.

can't figure this out i can't see at 65mph with a 8.5 inch clear view windshield on my 2012 sg. I know a lot of the turbulence is coming from underneath the bat wing. I went to the dealer today and RGs have a plastic piece that snaps to the top of the engine guard. Not sure it that will help any but put the pieces on my bike but with full handlebar throw the blinkers hit.. Is there anything made for the SG. I don't want to put the vents on the bottom of the batwing either. next Wind splitter windshield or Klock werks. I love the bike but no fun when you can't see.\
I will promise you the buffeting is coming form below fairing, not over. Many solutions, the fairing lower wings will help the most, the top fork baffle will help, setting lower in the seat will help, fork lowers will help, a different sytle helmet will help, adding a passenger will help, floorboard extensions will help, installing longer{taller} shocks will help, riding with knees close to tank will help. I can keep going. Do this: Ride at speed where the buffeting is the worst. Take you left arm and cross it horizontaly accross your chest, the buffeting will be gone. That is what you need to address.

All of that is correct but many buy the SG for the cool factor and they do look cool right off the show room floor. Great for putting around town (bar hopper). Then you get on the road for a long trip and dam your eyeballs start to shake, ratttle, and roll. The only way to solve the problem is do as you say but for many that will take away the cool factor. This is the problem facing alot of SG owners.
When I was younger I would rather look cool than be safe and comfortable. As I'm getting older that has reversed.
