Okay so today I pulled the air cleaner off and checked out the 2 air bleeders on the MM and they were clean. The throat of the throttle body was pretty nasty with gunk, so I ran the RPM's up some and sprayed some cleaner in there. Seemed too make a difference. I then checked all of the grounds and found a dirty one, cleaned and reassembled. Put everything together took it down the road. No problems. I let the bike cool some and decided too put it away for the night. While driving it into my storage trailer it stalled out. So i tryed restarting. Wasnt happy about starting and then everything cut out. I waited a couple of seconds and the dash lights came back on tryed again no start and the same thing happened with everything going out including the starter disengaging and no response from the starter button for probably 5 seconds. Tryed again restarted. I am clueless at this point. GRRRRR
If the entire bike is shutting down, not just the ignition system, then check the circuit breaker. If it's the entire bike shutting down, lights, dash, everything, then it should be easy to find. Now if it's just the ignition system shutting down you have a host of possible culprits.
Morning everyone. After having not really been able too ride much this week because of the heat and being busy I got a chance too ride this past Friday. Wouldnt you know it the bike ran great never skipped a beat. After some thought about this I realized that the running issue seems to present when the temperature is upwards of the 90 degree mark and the humidity is high. Maybe I am grabbing at straws and it means nothing but I thought that I would post it and see if anyone has any thoughts on this. Very frustrating not being able too just take off and ride for hours. Thank you everyone.
I had an 01 RK and it had Delphi ecm. Anyway I had a similar problem, and it turned out to be the wires that run along the back bone to the coil were pulled to tight on the 01's sometimes causing a break. Mine ran fine cold, and only acted up when hot. Had the dealer fix it. There was a TSB on it, and repaired and extended the wires in question. Also had a spedo sensor go bad that mainly affected idle.
The old MM bikes had sensors that tended to fail. I can't remember if they were temperature, or oxygen sensors at the moment.
My buddy has a MM fuel injected 98 Road King that had the same type of running issues you have. A new set of sensors made it run like a new machine! I have a friend that used to own a 2000 Road King and he had to replace them twice over a few year span. Easy fix, if this is what your problem is.

Hello all. I wanted to give an update on where I stand with the problem that I was having with my ride. After not having the time to even ride never mind take a look at the bike. I finally had a chance too look at the bike and I found the problem that was causing my issues. I found 3 wires in the main harness that goes into the front fairing. They all had broken conductors right at the pivot point of the forks. They were the 3 largest wires in the harness. 2 red and 1 black. So if any one else has any similar issues might try starting there and see what one finds. Thank you all for the help that you had given me.
