I have a 2011 ultra classic. I had the dealer put air in rear suspension, recently I started riding two up and the suspension seaned to be bottoming out. I bought the air pump by harley and bleed the air out of schocks and pumb it up to 45 psi, this seem to work for a while and then it seemed to bottom out again. any suggestion to the problem or should I have the dealer look at it again as I have the extended warrenty
I tried it again. Found you need to turn the nut on real tight in order to get the valve stemm to go down and except air from the pump. Pumped it up to 48 psi and it is working great. Tink Harley needs to put info out on this issue so others will know. It could cause you to waste money and time at the dealer for something that is not broken but needs to be explained in the pumps instruction.
An external pressure guage goes a long way in telling you if indeed you did "air them up"..........
I set up a couple from parts bought at Fleet Farm. 1 goes to 60 PSI for tires, etc, and the other goes to 30 PSI for smaller applications (tractor tires, etc...).
My recommendation is call Howard at Motorcycle Metal, order a set of Ohlins, install, remove all trace of air suspension, use Harley shocks for target practice.
Going to the Ohlins is absolutely the best investment I have ever made.
Its funny i went through the same thing over and over again - air in air out two up one up constantly adjusting all of the time until one day i had an epiphany I sourced out something uniquely different that satisfied all of my issues - it was hydraulic suspension - What a difference the right set up can make!
no more air, no more pump this, or, let that out - just get on it and ride, as if that was not good enough it automatically lowered my bike when i can to a full stop! dropped it 2.5 inches so now when the misses is with me no big deal - I am flat footed and loving every minute of it!
Take the time do the research and you too will see all of the benefits of a ECM speed sensitive suspension system.
The system does not actually have a lot of air in it (by volume) so any leak at all will drin the system rapidly. My shocks never lose a pound of air pressure durring the year. If yours do, take it back to the dealer.
