Default Street Glide upgrade

Hey all,
So I got the 2012 SG. I went with Rinehardt slip on's instead of the full exhaust. Since I have no plans on doing cams down the line and based upon the cost factor, I couldn't justify the full exhaust. And, I'm not sold on the concept that a full exhaust produces more HP that you can feel, other than being dynoed.

Did I do right?

Personally, I love the bike as is but what other mods do folks do and why?

Congrats on the new sled! By adding slip ons alone, you've changed the sound of your bike and made a negligible impact on performance. Full exhaust, a performance breather, and a tune (aka a Stage I) will absolutely give you more seat of the pants HP/Torque (what you really feel). 2:1 exhaust will give you more seat of the pants power than true duals but some prefer the look and sound of duals.

As for cams, I didn't think I'd ever put in cams either. That changed after 3k miles and I've never looked back. The difference with cams is night and day.

My recommendation is to carefully consider every upgrade with respect to your ultimate dream mods and only spend serious coin on mods that will work on your dream set-up. This is the only way to prevent spending your mod money twice.

most swap to a header with no catalytic converter ( less restriction), a free flowing air cleaner and a tuning compensation from nightrider.com xieds on the low end to "piggyback tuners" to a complete aftermarket ECM like the thundermax.

This is a "stage 1" and the best bang for buck power increase with out affecting reliability.

you'd be wise to make sure anything you change doesn't void your warranty.

wait a while

You've done all you need to do to enjoy the bike (better sound).
The rest is a lot more money and is debatable if it's really worth it.
Just ride the bike and enjoy it. If you don't like something, deal with it later. Nothing has to be, or needs to be done right now.

Your Rineharts did two things for you. One it gave you the sound you wanted. At least I assume you like the sound. Second thing you did is make your exhaust less restrictive. Making it less restrictive without running more exhaust through the system has actually DECREASED your performance. If you have the black tips it could discolor them too. The exhaust is part of a trifecta that Sparky mentioned. You give it more air (air cleaner), more fuel (stage 1), and free up the exhaust. Should all be done at the same time.

Starting with the '10's ya gotta get rid of the cat somehow. Either gut it or buy a new header. Get a 2-1-2 life you have but without a cat. Also as Sparky said you probably do not want duels.

Welcome and enjoy!

Enjoy the bike. If you are happy, then it's all good.

Good one Sparky! Ok, I have to admit it, will be putting the x-treme duals stage 1 at Sturgis this year, then I am done, for now
