Hello Everyone.
I've been wanting to ad tunes to my 03 Road King. Searching, looking and asking, I have decided a fairing was my best choice for looks and sound. I like the dragonfly fairing the best, but reading recent posts of quality issues I have been holding off on a purchase. Has the quality control issues at Dragonfly been cleared up? I would like to buy a fairing with no radio but painted to match my bike through them. Hate to spend that kind of money and be disappointed. I figure I can provide a better stereo at there price. Should I buy now or wait? Thanks for your replies. Bob
Have you checked out Reckless? Lots of good reports on that one; not all have been good on DFly. I plan to ride up to Maryville Tenn. in early fall where they make 'em. They will let you tour the place if you call ahead. I will probably have one of them by winter. Do a forum search, lots of 'King Fairing talk. Hear good things about Glenn at Woody's too.
I agree with you on doing stereo systems yourself. I had a Dragonfly on previous bike and I'd picked it up used and already painted my color at much reduced price from new. This would be your best bet but may be hard to find one. I really liked the looks of DF over the others plus the 6x9's were awesome!
I'm glad that I went with Dead Center Cycles. Exceptional quality and zero issues. That is 100 percent customer service in my book. Plus the fairing is "lockable, and removable" in minutes.
If you buy the best you will always be satisfied.
(legal mumbo jumbo, disclaimer: I don't work for or sell them, only a satisfied customer)
I have looked at the reckless. I have also talked with Glenn at Woody's, it would of been a done deal if his would of been able to hold an amp in the fairing . I like the Idea of 4 spks since most stereos are 4 ch anyway, But that only leaves me using 5.25 spks. Thanks for the King fairing talk search idea did find other posts I've not seen before. I did look at the Dead Centers and chose the Dragonfly because of the 6x9 spkr feature and being able to put an amp in the fairing. I think the Quality of the fairing's should be comparable since they all are widely used and known. I figure If I order it painted, if it's really bad I'd dispute it with my CC. But I really hate going through the BS. Thanks Bob

I have a Deadcenter and it does hold a amp. I have the ARC 125.2 with Polk speakers and it sounds great.
Not only have I had no problems with my Dragonfly fairing, I found the company to be very customer oriented. I had an older Dragonfly fairing that needed repair, I sent it in to Dragonfly to have the work done (at my expense, the fairing was several years old). This was one of their older, fiberglass fairings with the round speaker openings, they use a different mounting system, different layups etc. Rather than repair the fairing, the owner replaced it with one of their newer ones and charged me only for the cost of the repair work, which amounted to a couple of hundred bucks. Most of the folks who actually own Dragonfly fairings will tell you it is a very high quality product. If I hadn't gone with Dragonfly, I would have bought a DeadCenter, but I think the Dragonfly inner fairing is better looking, and the stainless mounting brackets that run through the inner fairing on the Dragonfly appears stronger than anybody else's.
Again Thanks for your responses. I know there's a lot of dead center fans on this forum and I'm not saying anyone is better. I my personal opinion is that I like the dragonfly better because of looks of the fairing as it is facing me when sitting on the bike. The fronts of the fairing are the same. I like it so much I looked at all the fairings I could and still like the look of this fairing. I started this thread because when I was doing my research I found a few members that were dissatisfied with there Dragonfly fairings. I want to order one, but I'm hesitant. This all started when I wanted to add tunes to my ride. I am mechanically inclined but I don't do paint. I would pay there price for the painting to ensure I would get a great piece. Thanks Bob
