I put on a HD mount. It was the new, improved version. Fit like a glove. Just be sure to put the flat side up. I asked at my dealer and he gave me the wrong info , man was I pissed. I bought one from J& P at half the price and was never satisfied with it. I felt it had to much play from side to side. That led me to the HD one and it fit like a glove.
The old style factory mounts were fine but did not last long. I got 40+K miles on the first one on my EVO, 28K miles on the first one on my wife's FLHT, and 14K miles on the origional mount in my '06.
The new style appears to be much stronger and works fine if installed correctly.
As I remember, HD started using the new design in the production bikes in the spring of '06 and also recalled the old style mounts from their dealer's parts inventory and replaced them with the new design.
As above, I had the same results with aftermarket motor mounts. NO GOOD. I tried a Velva anda J&P/Dennis Kirk(both of which are quite a bit stiffer than stock). The stiffer designkeeps the motor from jumping around at idle but above that....you really feel it. Unless your motor has gobs of HP....imo, buy the stock mount.
