Its been raining solid for a week on the Gulf coast. Best gear now is a snorkel and flippers.

The material is absolutely impermeable though - I have been in nasty rain storms for hours and stayed bone dry. They are ultra light weight though, so don't expect a lot of warmth from them. Put warm clothes on underneath.

They pack very small, but be sure to dry off after use. If they sit in the bags for too long when put away wet, they start to stink of mildew. They go for $50 - $75 a set but routinely go on sale at Cabelas for $30.
+1 on the Froggs ! Got mine for about $40.00 and have had them for 4 years. Good quality, and they fold/roll up small.

Frogg toggs work well for me. If you buy a Harley rain suite make sure the material will breath (Gortex). If you buy the cheaper Harley rain gear you will sweat like your wearing a plastic bag. When you pull off the gear your cloths are damp from your body sweat.

There are lots of options:

Home Depot and Lowe's sells rain suits for about $25.00 but they melt next to the exhaust.
Golfers get some nice rain gear, works good but melts next to the exhaust
Columbia, Frogg Toggs, Hell Hansen, Northern Face, etc. most melt next to the exhaust.

Some are more heat resistant than others and if you want a set that will hold up to your exhaust for any length of time we as riders need to find what works with our individual bike.

What works for a sport bike or sport touring rider may not work for a Harley rider, I will most likely just get Harley gear unless I can find a brand that has the "leather patch" on the inside of the lower legs to keep form melting on the exhaust.

Not trying to lecture anyone just pointing out that bikers have specialized needs when it comes to rain gear, and it can cost.

I don't necessary like it but I accept it.

I have frog toggs at the moment. I found they work ok for my daily commute however they do start to leak by time I get home. never had any issues with the exhaust tho. I am planning on doing more touring in the future and will likely upgrade to some kind of Gore Tex.
On a side note, they do work well when I'm fishing

HD here. Mine are 12 years old and work best in cooler weather. If it gets warm I sweat like a pig. In heavy day(s) long rides you will stay dry.
I'm looking for gortex.
+++ on HD.. the reflective value is tops. Had a guy trying to catch me to see what the big reflection was. Met him at the gas pump and he had to see what it was. That means a lot to me.
My 2 cents.

Tourmaster, I think I paid like $40 top and bottom on sale. But most of the time, I just throw chaps on with the leather jacket. Leather will keep you pretty dry....

I used to wear thrown away oil & chemical caked rain gear from work and tied the wrists and ankles shut...really looked like hell and felt like I was cob corn on the grill !
I let'er snap about 6 years ago and got a HD rain suit, it doesn't melt and breathes well. Biggest thing is it fits and doesn't flap around, still in great condition. I'd buy HD again unless their was some Tour-master I could try on and compare.
