I hope I havent opened a can of worms but what styles or brands is best for the rain? I know you get what you pay for but is it worth going to the stealership to buy one?

No, much better for much less. I hear good things about Frogg Toggs.

My H-D lightweight rain wear suits me just right. Works when I need it and stows easily when I don't in the hardbags.

I was just in my dealer yesterday looking for the same thing, I was omg! $120 for nylon jacket and pants that fold up into a little pouch? Then looked at the better rain gear and it was over $220. I will look elsewhere

I ride, a lot, so I prefer HD, TourMaster, some of the better, yes, more expensive brands. I have an HD Gore Tex that has been in my bag for 12 years now and I don't get wet, even in days of rain in places like Alaska. That said, depends on how often you think you need it, Frog Toggs get good reviews for those occassional short events where you're not in an all day soaker. However, a good rainsuit can be an investment that lasts a long, long time, so the high quality, more expensive options are actually a good investment for me as I keep them a long time.

I have the H-D stuff, mostly because I had a gift certificate to burn. That said I am quite satisfied with it. I had trouble getting Frog Toggs in real men sizes, after 2 tries I am convinced they only make them for tall skinny guys. I have a set of the Frog Toggs for fshing and they work well, but I'm not wearing boots on the boat

Another vote for the Harley rain gear. I have had to use mine a few times and it has kept me dry and is fairly light weight.

I really like my Frogg Toggs. I have a set that I keep on the fishing boat, and a set that I keep on the bike. You do have to be careful though, I touched my leg on the pipe of my softail and it melted dang quick. The material is absolutely impermeable though - I have been in nasty rain storms for hours and stayed bone dry. They are ultra light weight though, so don't expect a lot of warmth from them. Put warm clothes on underneath.

They pack very small, but be sure to dry off after use. If they sit in the bags for too long when put away wet, they start to stink of mildew. They go for $50 - $75 a set but routinely go on sale at Cabelas for $30.

I have the H-D rain suit and a TourMaster suit and both are solid. The last time I wore Frogg Toggs fishing I ended up cold and wet. They also don't hold up well to brushing up against hot exhaust from what I have read.

As many have said, Frogg Toggs will keep you dry but they don't hold up well against a hot exhaust. I prefer my HD rain gear.
