I rode a Vanson for a couple months and sold it. Uncomfortable, ill-fitting, stiff, unfriendly in every way. Heavy leather for sure, and it looked like it could survive a shuttle re-entry. But it was not really made for humans. I ride Icon jackets now and I love them. Quality gear and normal fitment.
Fox creek says that they run a bit small, but I ordered a size 50 ( I wear a 48 in almost all jackets carhartt etc.) I was swimming in it. I sent it back and had a 48 two days after I called them. It cost me the amount of shipping back the first jacket. The 48 was perfect and seams to me it ran true to the 48 size I have seen. I love the jacket. Nothing on it appears to come from communist RED CHINA ( otherwise known as the nether world). Buy american or don't complain when you government askes you to learn to write in chinese.
I tried on an Xpert jacket the other day and thought it was a Fox Creek. Has the same quality leather, stitching, design and zippers. These jackets are so close that I think they supply some of Fox Creek's jackets. The Xperts are about $150 dollars less. The difference is their warranty is only 10 years on hardware and stitching and you will likely not get the customer service of Fox Creek. So the question is: is the lifetime warranty and great customer service worth $150.00?
Hi,
I was all set to buy a new Vanson riding jacket this month. ( Been saving for a long time ).
But friends are now telling me that I will be dissapointed with a Vanson because they are
made shorter than most ( I am tall from shoulders to waist ). Also alteration time at Vanson
is now 4 MONTHS !!!. Now I am hearing that a lot of people are unhappy with new Vansons
quality since the company is now operating from outside the country.
A few riders are recommending that I spend my $$$ on a HD fxrg jacket, great features and available
in " tall " sizes.
Any pros and cons on Vanson vs FXRG ??
I thought this was gonna be easy.
Thanks very much,
Jake
All I can give you is cons on both jackets and most of whats been recomended to you so far. If you have ever picked up a real motorcycle jacket you'd laugh at Vanson, Fox Creek, FXRG and all the rest of the Chinese stuff with velcro and shoestrings holding it together. Nylon Garment zippers will not hold up to regular use let alone stay together while sliding down the freeway. That is the reason for a leather jacket right? To protect you when you need it.
Go to Langlitz and have them build you a real jacket and forget about it. You, like me will get real sick of posers with their F/C, Vanson/ Chinese stuff telling you how nice it is and asking where you bought it and how they wished they had gotten the "right one".
My Langlitz turns 40 years old in a few months and I have no doubt it will be protecting someone a long time after I am gone.
Definitely consider Fox Creek Leather!! Just bought my second leather from them and they are nothing short of fantastic to work with. The jacket is the BEST quality you could imagine, very heavy leather, yet well made and designed with a rider in mind. USA Made!! Less expensive then HD Leathers too! I couldn't recommend them enough.
I have the HD FXRG (nylon). It is expensive! Arguably the finest jacket (M/C) that I've ever owned. It is extremely well designed and ideal for the very cold riding conditions that are experienced in Canada. The damn thing is so warm that I can't imagine anyone owning one who lives in the Sourthern climes. ha ha.
Langlitz.com. You will not be disappointed I assure you.
+1
You're part of the family when you buy Langlitz and they are built not made for you. I won't ride without Langlitz myself. Expensive-around $900 for a jacket but like most things, you get what you pay for.
