Bought mine back in the spring and love it. Been riding since I was a kid but this is my first Harley .Added a few things to it gonna have the stage 1 and new exhaust added in a couple of months . Been very pleased with the bike it's my favorite one I've owned.
Bought my 2012 Limited a month ago. It was "Used" with 3900 miles on it. Before he traded it back in on a 2013 he added....V&H true duals and mufflers, SE AC, download, upgraded heated grips, chrome switch covers, adjustable back rest, chrome levers, and J&M amp and speakers. I got $3k worth of extras and bought it for under book value. I love it. I had a 05 Ultra prior and plum wore it out with 78k miles on it. I love the 103 and 6 speed.
I bought a 2012 Ultra Classic. Saved about 2300. They are now 103 cu. in. So with the limited you get. Heated grips, ABS, Security, Chrome wheels, trunk rack, cigar lighter in trunk, no front bumper, and no chrome saddle bag guards on side. So here's what I did. I made this all part of the deal. I added trunk rack. Made them put on a guard loop for the saddle bags and I removed the front bumper. So as far as mine is concerned it's pretty much a
limited. Would have like to have the ABS and chrome wheels. But 2300 come on. And from what I've read, I didn't want the security. Could have cared less about heated grips. I then added V&H power duals, 4" Rineharts, and stage one air cleaner. Went with power commander 5 from Fuel Moto. Did that for less then the 2300 dollars extra for the Limited. Plus I liked the paint scheme of the Ultra Classic better. Just my 2 cents.
Bought my 2011 in September 2010 and was not sure it would be right for me. I love this bike and would not trade it for anything else.
A few suggestions for the purchase so warranty covers it:
1) Stage 1 (upgraded intake, catalytic converter-less exhaust, and download) and
2) cams if you want,
Anytime after purchase:
1) BAL taillight
2) LED lights all around for better visibility
3) highway pegs
4) better seat and rider backrest
5) replace the ambient air temp with oil temp gage (IMHO)

Not sure bout that man, The reg ultra was only $1000 cheaper than my limited and you cannot come close to all the options for $1000 but like you said if you don't need them then you still save, you forgot all bag liners too.. But I have a 2013...
Just got a 13. I was thinking of getting an ultra classic until I started pricing all the options a limited has. Wheels alone are 500.00 each. I love the look of my limited.
Well looks like I'm gonna be the only one that says he should've bought the Road King. Now don't get me wrong the Ultra is a fine machine but I miss the open feeling of the Road King on a warm summer day. I have spent way to much on mine to trade it in so I will run it for a few years.
The Mods are Fuel moto 2-1-2 pipe, Supertrapp fatshots, TW222 cam Power Vision are the engine mods.
Detachable tour pak, Fosgate amp and speakers all the way around ( find myself riding with the radio off most of the time)
Don't get me wrong this is a great bike but the fixed fairing and Tour Pak add a lot of weight and some of the fun in motorcycling for ME. If I could start over I would get a Road King with leather bags, far less to clean if you are a clean freak like me and way lighter.
I've had the same thoughts, but I would get the King as a town bike...trouble is I would favor one and not ride the other much. The weight of the Limited is not so much I'll get a second bike for town riding, but it is a full size bike for sure. Best option (especially if money is an issue) is to get a quick detach kit for the tour pak, and wear big boy pants when riding. The FLHTK is a great joy to ride when on the highway, in the twisties, and in town no matter what the weather is like.
Nothing like a faring to surprise you the first hail/thunder storm where (as long a visibility and cold don't get to be the issue) you actually keep trucking along till ya happen on a place to wait it out without hail/rain smacking you like bullets.
