Default Rusty exhuast studs, how to remove and replace

I'm putting on new exhaust this weekend and went ahead and removed the mufflers and headpipe. I noticed my headpipe nuts and studs where rusty at the cyclinder exhaust port. How do I remove the studs? Does anyone make stainless studs, and what is the thread pitch on the?

Thank You
Josh

Any time I've got the exhaust off I always replace the nuts, it's too easy for the hex to get rounded off and the nuts are cheap. Not sure I would worry about the studs, you may get into something you don't want to, they may not come out of the head very easy. I'd just clean up the threads and put on some new nuts. Nobody is really going to see it but you anyway.

He is right, just replace the nutts, the only time we replace the studs is if they break.

If you are worried about the rust, run a die-nut on them. I have never seen an exhaust stud over a month old that wasn't rusty.

After you clean them up, coat them with a high temp grease or copper anti seize and put the new nuts on.

the environment the studs are in is not very forgiving. you are not gonna be able to keep a stud looking 'new' for any length of time. i wouldn't replace them unless they break.

Clean 'em and use hi-temp anti-seize.

A "thread chaser" is better suited than a die. The die will "re-cut" the threads. A thread chaser/restorer will clean up the existing threads without removing metal. A set like this one ( http://www.summitracing.com/parts/shc-952105/overview/ ) is/can be a real time saver when dealing with older fasteners.

You should probably start a new thread. Everyone is going to respond to the 2 year old thread instead of your question.
