I just found and read the instructions on throttle replacement for my bike, 99 EG Standard, it does not say anything about having to take the faring off or the tank. Could mine be different since most of you guys have newer bikes?
...
Yes... I would try without removing it... Hell i can take my fairing off my bike in about 2-3 minutes at the most. 7 screws...
Mines an 04 classic , and yes the front fairing is a breeze to remove.I take the headlight out first , nice time to do some deep cleaning. I made me some small spacer blocks to jack up the tank after all the proper mounting bolts were removed , and was able to gain enough access to remove and replace the cable. Spacer blocks were just made from some 3/4 wood stock. Good luck , you can do it. Make sure you use the new ferrel that comes with the cable . Don't drop it , they have a way of dissappearing.
Get the new cable, take the old cable loose from the throttle body, tape the new cable inline with the old one, pull the old cable out up to the bars, your new cable will be laced in exactly the same way as the old one, then you just have to hook up the ends.

How can I do that with the metal ball on the end? Do you mean the whole cable, not just the inside cable?
