If you get a 3 day weekend, Albuquerque is only 7 hours away. Go ride the mountains. I lived there for almost 6 years. Great riding there! Do it in the spring though, the temp at the higher elevations (up to and over 10K sometimes) is cold. LOL
Head down to the Texas Hill Country around Fredericksburg, Llano, Kerrville, Leakey, etc....Enchanted Rock, etc. for some excellent riding
Big Bend is the best in the state IMHO, but a full day's ride to get there....worth it though...don't miss The River Road....Study Butte to Presidio....runs parallel with the Rio Grande
Also, Palo Duro Canyon west of Wichita Falls.....NE from Lubbock and SE from Amarillo.... a couple of hours west is some nice scenery
If you comethrough Waco, drop me a line. The Texas Ranger Hall of Fame (the real Texas Rangers, not the baseball team) is a neat place to see. We also have the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and the Dr. Pepper Museum. Then there's always the world famous George's....
As was mentioned before, the hill country! Don't forget Bandera.Welcome to Texas, even if it is for a little while. It's like a whole other country, oops I'm starting to sound like a commercial.lol.
