I cut down my windshield so it was not right in my line of sight.(big improvement, also have a fairing"sometimes") I put some highway pegs on the crashbars where I would be able to put my heels on the floorboards and my toes on the pegs. this gave me alot of different ways that I could move my feet. If you ride much at night the L.E.D lights are great. I also run a set of the pre-07 heritage bars. (i think..before they went to 12") I love the way they feel and could use the stock cables.
run low beam and spot lights on during the day to improve being seen.
one of the biggest things to watch for is orange chips in the oil. this would be a sign of the cam chain tensioners going out. that seems to be the most common problem with the twincams.
I have had my 99 classic for 5 yrs and 40k miles and still love it. Hope you will yours to..congrads and it's a whole new world on a big twin.
This is great advice as I just picked up my '06 RK 3 weeks ago. I run my LED's all the time and spots/low beams as well. Highway pegs are in the garage waiting to go on for more comfort. Only thing I will be adding in the winter is a new set of bars as the previous owner was shorter than me. I'm thinking of 16's or 18" Wild One bars but am not sure. Have some comparing to do over the winter. Enjoy your new bike!
