Default Rough idle

Scratching my head and need a quick fix, leaving for a 3500 mile trip this Saturday.

This is an out of the blue problem, the bike is sometimes idling rough and has completely stalled 3 times in the past few days while trying to idle, once at a red light.

Not showing any trouble codes. Have went through two tanks of gas, ruling out bad gas. Upgraded the firmware and software on the Tmax, it happened again and still no faults.

The last time this happened, the little rubber cap had fallen off the top of the throttle body tube. It's fine now.

Has anyone resolved an issue like this?

How many miles are on the bike? Have you checked for trouble codes? Is the fuel filter clogging? You can try cleaning out the throttle body. Also try running some seafoam through the tank. Does it happen only when it is warm? Could be a ETS issue, or possibly (but not probable)a vapor lock. Does it restart immediately after it stalls, or do you have to let it sit a while? The more info you give the better.

Better call Zippers and trouble shoot w/them over the phone would be my suggestion.

You say the last time this happened it was a rubber cap atop the throttle body, causing a vacuum leak?

This time you say it is OK, but the symptoms are the same...so I would check the rubber boots from the TB's to the heads for cracks/leaks/tightness. Use a spray bottle with only water with the engine running, any change in idle will tell you. Easy, not messy, low cost diagnosis, if that is what it is, but being only a 2011 I don't know.

I agree that I would check the aftermarket parts first for error...maybe remove the tmax and see if it runs smoother. If not, re-install and continue diagnosing.

My guess is that the TMAX has failed. Might be worth taking it to your dealer to be checked out.

- 21,000 miles
- no codes
- ran Seafoam through already, poured some directly in the intake
- it's restarts okay after stalling
- looked over everything I can think of

Made the recommended checks, looks fine there.

Anyone else?
