By your own account you were going 15 mph above the speed limit and you want them to pay for your mistake. This is why America is in the shape it's in. Everyone wants someone else to pay for their mistakes or laziness....good grief. You should be ashamed to even post something like that on a public forum.

His kids sat there flipping me the bird. I was there to apologize and offer them a puppy but now, screw it. I called the cops, had them write up an incident report and his homeowners can fix my bike and pay for a loner. I just feel bad for the dog.
I really dont care about the funds. My dog got hit when I was a kid so I know how the family feels. I wasnt there to do anything but appoligize. If I wasn't met with hostility, there wouldn't have been an issue about money. I truly felt bad. But when a person spits in my direction, and his children are sitting there flying me the bird, he's actually lucky I called the cops and didn't give him something else to ruin his day.
Wandered out in front of you or chasing bikes, sounds like a ill trained rude dog to me and from the acton of the kids I wouldn't be surprised. F!@# them and the dog for almost killing someone. I've hit two dogs and never felt sorry about it and was glad I didn't go down. Have watched people almost kill themselves or another to avoid some ill trained rude animal, screw that the dog is going to lose.
My girlfrind hit a Javelina the other day and she told me I remember what you said if you have to hit it then do it, don't kill yourself to save some damn animal.

Brother, it wasn't my mistake. Dogs are domestic, trainable animals. My dog won't leave my yard without one of the family by his side. He'll also eat you on command. I feel horrible for the grief that I know the kids are feeling, but IMO, totally the owners fault. If you have a dog you have to train it to its boundaries.

the fact that he was going over the speed limit had nothing to do with the dog running loose. i don't see how you can call this 'his mistake'....

What does going 15 over have to do with it? 70 or 55 would yield the same results. Bottom line is, the owner failed to control and keep his dog out of the street.
Crawl back in yer hole and shut yer yap!
Poor frick'in dog, the damn kids were probably shooting at it with their BB gun ! Poor dog just probably wanted to end it all ! Probably figured you were a milk truck with the sound of that motor ! It's a good thing you were mov'in along at a good clip to make it faster for him. Farm dogs have the right to run loose, just like deer !!. Not your fault, just circumstance, glad you didn't go down.

Give it a rest. Once you realize that no one is as perfect as you, your stress level will go down. IF you have never driven 15 over (and I seriously doubt it) then stay on your soapbox and give it hell.
The rider made no mistake here. He was on the roadway. If he run over it in their yard, then that would be a mistake.
Bottom line is their f**king dog was in the street. OP could have been killed because of it. Luckily, he survived the encounter.

Come on! You were going 15 over the posted limit and hit their dog and you're pissed? Maybe when the impact occured you were going 55 but if you respected the limit, you would've been going 40 or even less, maybe then the dog would have survived. I agree with one point tough, the dog shouldn't have been running loose. And the guy is lucky cause you called the cops? Who are you, the Terminator? Geez. Maybe you are the lucky one because the guy could have greeted you with a baseball bat or a gun. And if it was a kid instead of a dog?
